That's cool. I like the "nuclear sub" approach, as it is in keeping with what I believe Spock alluded to in Balance Of Terror: that the Romulan War was fought with primitive atomic weaponry (certainly considered primitive by the setting of that TOS episode anyway). It's often assumed that this design was contemporary with that conflict, and this is a nice touch.
